GoAnywhere 7.8.2 is Now Available

Fortra have just released version 7.8.2 of GoAnywhere MFT. To understand what this means for your existing GoAnywhere File Transfer solution, we turned to Richard Auger, Principal Technical Consultant, to take a closer look at the key enhancements, updates, and fixes included in this latest release.

As expected with a minor release, many of the changes that you will find in this version are fixes that were left over from the April release of version 7.8.0, which most importantly allowed Azure Data Lake Gen2 storage to be treated as a resource, rather than requiring a cloud connector.

Having said that, the most exciting feature of version 7.8.2 is that it allows OAuth2 authentication for SMTP and mailbox resources (previously made available for SMTP in general settings only on version 7.6.0).  If you are using Office 365 for email, this will answer those awkward questions that security teams ask around basic authenticationIn addition, if your GoAnywhere server has no internet access, you can now make use of the HTTPS proxy in GoAnywhere Gateway for your mail connections (the SMTP resource does not have a built in proxy).

Similarly, the IMAP mailbox resource also has been updated for Oauth2:

The option will only be displayed once IMAP is selected.

To make use of Oauth2 authentication, you will need to get a token. This requires you to either use the free Oauth2 Cloud Connector, or else make a REST POST call to MS-Graph.

There are performance improvements for the SFTP service as well, with better memory management and some fixes to address specific issues. Sadly however, the SFTP client has not yet been updated to address design issues around the use of SFTP virtual folders.

For new installations, the ‘switch database’ process has been improved, which allows you to configure advanced connection properties before making the switch (including security settings).

GoAnywhere Agent 2.4.2 is also now available...

At the same time as releasing 7.8.2 of GoAnywhere, version 2.4.2 of the GoAnywhere agent has been released:

This also includes Oauth2 authentication for SMTP in the same way as for the GoAnywhere MFT updates listed above. You should note, however, that as you cannot access a cloud connector from an agent, you must either find a way to pass the authentication token from MFT to the agent, or else make a REST POST call on the agent itself (which requires an Advanced Agent, rather than standard).

If you have any questions about the release of GoAnywhere MFT 7.8.2, or around how to install it, please get in touch with one of our technical experts and we'd be happy to help.
