The Environment

One of the UK’s largest Building Societies, with both an online and high street presence, required a secure and efficient Managed File Transfer solution to support its digital transformation and achieve its compliance objectives.

As an organisation managing significant financial assets and operating in a highly regulated environment, the Building Society needed a centralised approach to file transfer that could replace a legacy system burdened by technical debt, outdated tools and manual scripting.

The Challenge

Rapid growth and a lack of standardisation across the organisation created multiple challenges. There was no central, standardised method for transferring files with trading partners, and the use of multiple legacy SFTP tools combined with home-grown scripts introduced unnecessary complexity, single-person dependencies and operational risk. The organisation was also unable to consistently guarantee encryption in transit, making it difficult to meet regulatory standards.

In addition, the internal team had limited expertise in secure file transfer and relied heavily on a highly configured workflow orchestration system that was no longer fit for purpose. Together, these issues resulted in inefficiencies, increased operational risk and a growing threat of non-compliance with regulatory standards.

Pro2col used its vendor-agnostic expertise to guide the client through a comprehensive and tender process, ensuring the selected file transfer solution aligned with the organisation’s specific use cases, regulatory requirements and long-term objectives. Over a twelve-month period, Pro2col’s technical consultants worked closely with the client’s team to design and implement a bespoke solution.

The final deployment combined Pro2col’s CloudMFT hosting solution with the Fortra managed file transfer platform GoAnywhere. This approach addressed all of the Building Society’s key requirements, from secure large data transfers through to meeting strict regulatory compliance standards, while providing a scalable and future-proof foundation.

The implemented solution significantly improved the organisation’s file transfer capabilities. Data security was enhanced through strong encryption and built-in compliance features, while automated workflows reduced manual effort and the risk of human error. The new platform also delivered real-time monitoring and visibility across all file transfers, alongside improved auditing, reporting and diagnostic capabilities to support regulatory compliance. By streamlining both internal and external file transfers, the solution freed up internal resources and reduced reliance on fragile legacy processes.
